PRESIDENT SAYS WAR SPIRIT OF COUNTRY IS
VERY MUCH ALIVE EXCEPT IN WASHINGTON

WASHINGTON. Friday, Oct. 2. Delayed Press (AP) The President's inspection of bustling war establishments around the edge of the nation worked out so well that he is giving consideration to another tour or two through the Central and Southeastern sections. He missed those areas while traveling 8700 miles through 24 states.

The President said he got the idea that arsenals are operating at 94 or 95 percent efficiency and they are approaching the tremendous production goals set for them. Employers and employees are doing their utmost to obtain maximum output. He said he is going to ask a great deal more in the next few months, indicating the goals will be set higher than last January.

Roosevelt said he found the finest kind of morale among the people--a willingness to sacrifice and accept any necessary war measures. He described the war spirit of the country as a whole as very much alive, except in the nation's capital, contending that the war spirit here is far less than in the rest of America.

The President spread the blame for this condition among portions of Congress, the press, radio, and Administration officials. He accused a minority press and radio, chiefly commentators and columnists of disseminating reports not based on fact and telling people things that don't exist.
