John F. Mansony, Esq. Consul from the Grand Duke of Tuscany for the New-England States, and residing in Boston, (says the Boston Intelligencer,) deserves the highest approbation of the American merchants generally, and of those of that place in particular, for his successful exertions in persuading his government to reduce the quarantine upon vessels which may arrive at the ports, under the Tuscan jurisdiction. The merchants of Leghorn we understand have made repeated representations upon this subject—but their applications for a reduction of the quarantine, have always proved fruitless. Mr. Mansony has fortunately convinced his government of the propriety of the measure they have adopted: and the quarantine upon all vessels, with a certificate of health from the consul in Boston, in future, will continue only ten days. The value of these services will be fully realized by the merchant, and especially felt by those, who after a tedious passage to Leghorn, without a sick individual on board their ships, have been detained 25, 30, and even 40 days longer, without any communication with the shore—thus adding the great expense of delaying the voyage, to the other miseries of procrastination.
