Objections Being Raised Against His Pardon from Prison.
The parties endeavoring to secure the pardon of Thos. Williams, have urged in support of their stand, that Judge Emerson stated that the verdict was not justified by the evidence; also that after the sentence he wrote a letter to the Governor recommending a pardon for Williams.
The parties further claim that names of some of the jurors have been placed on petitions for Williams' pardon, but none of the jurors whose names appeared on the petition deny having signed it. The family and friends of Mr. Hutchings, the man who was killed by Williams, deny that the judge made any statement to the effect that the verdict was not justified by the evidence, and they cite the court records for proof; also that the son of Judge Emerson denies that his father wrote any such letter. Contrary to the statement made by the parties urging Williams's pardon, that the family of Mr. Hutchings have withdrawn their objections to his pardon, the family deny that statement and in fact have urged these points in refutation to the statements brought out in favor of the condemned man.
The case comes up before the board of pardons tomorrow.
