Numerous varieties of catfish are caught in practically all Ohio fishing waters and some of them run to huge size.

Usually catfish fishermen use baits like those shown above, though occasionally a big channel cat is taken on an artificial lure.

Yellow, brown and black bullheads and shovelhead catfish provide interesting sport for thousands of Ohio fishermen.

Now that practically all Ohio fishing waters are liberalized, there are no closed seasons and no limits as to size or number of catches on any Ohio fish.

In 1951, 857,635 resident fishing licenses were bought by Ohio fishermen. Only California out of all the states sold more.
