Mr. Wise's speech has made no little sensation throughout the country. His political opponents acknowledge that it is characterized by independence, force, and republican plainness. Mr. Wise may be imprudent, but he is a bold, manly representative. It is good to have such men at the seat of government. They ruffle with the breeze of Liberty the deep and dull waters of Power. If they are not always retained within the strict bounds of staid and starched propriety something ought to be pardoned for the sake of the cause they oppose, the might against which they contend, and the spirit which actuates and propels them.
