Best Time Ever
Set for Pennsy
State Meeting

PITTSBURGH Morale is high and plans are shaping up for the best time ever at the first Pennsy state meeting of BRT and LA lodges Sept. 9 in Hotel William Penn.

Sen. Francis J. Myers, Democratic candidate for the U. S. Senate; Judge Michael A. Musmanno, lieutenant-governor aspirant on the Democratic ticket; and Mayor David Lawrence of Pittsburgh will address the meeting.

A recent gathering of the Joint State Meeting committee attended by 60 workers, all rarin' to go, was more confident of success than ever when they saw a delegation of LA members from the Philadelphia area led by LA Vice-Grand President Mrs. Anna F. Geddes.

Praises Cooperation

"The loyalty and support given this body by the sisters and brothers from the eastern part of the state has been of great importance in helping make this program a success," said Q. C. Gabriel, publicity chairman for the state meeting.

President Kennedy and LA Grand President Mary Gorman have been invited to speak at the meeting. Many other Grand Lodge officers will be present.

The meeting will open at 10 a. m. Sept. 9 in Hotel William Penn with a joint meeting addressed by leaders of both organizations. A paid-up receipt will admit members to the closed sessions, which will be held at 1:30 p. m.

Vice-President W. J. Weil, officer on the property in the recent Pittsburgh & Lake Erie strike, discussed the strike and the rules movement.

Field Supervisor B. H. Eidson, ticket committee chairman, reported that only a few seats remained at the time. He discussed seating arrangements. The few remaining tickets may be purchased from Mr. Eidson at 131 Hilands Place, McKnight Village, Pittsburgh 9.

The LA plans to enroll many new members during its closed session.

Evening events will begin with a banquet at 6:30 p. m. President Kennedy will be the principal speaker and other labor and political dignitaries will attend.

C. S. Barr described the floor show prepared for the guests and all indications show it will be one of the finest ever put on in the Pittsburgh area, said Gabriel.

All committees were given the appreciation and a vote of thanks of the joint committee at the meeting, the last scheduled before the banquet.

Gives Ship Models

J. W. Brennan, Lodge 438, donated two ship models to the committee, and lots were drawn to see who would take them home.

One went to Elizabeth Birckbichler, LA 890, and the other to H. P. Schmidt, BRT Lodge 872.

A special note of thanks went to C. J. Sludden, BRT state representative, for his leadership in planning the affair, said Gabriel.

A top-notch floor show, direct from the stages and supper clubs, will entertain following the banquet. Dancing will end the evening's festivities.

Joint State Association officers are C. J. Sludden, chairman; Edith M. Landis, vice-chairman; Gladys Conner, secretary; and Ralph J. Davidson, treasurer.
