LOS ANGELES, Sept. 18 Aimee Semple McPherson, evangelist who disappeared while swimming in the Pacific ocean and appeared in Arizona, saying she had been kidnapped, will be arrested Monday on charges of criminal conspiracy and preparing false evidence, if she continues to improve physically. The warrant is ready as soon as the evangelist is pronounced well enough to make the trip to the municipal court.
Her mother and doctor said today the evangelist probably will conduct services tomorrow night in the Angelus temple. A new offer to surrender Kenneth G. Ormiston, radio operator wanted in connection with the McPherson case, was received at the district attorney's office from S. S. Hahn, attorney who has been representing Ormiston. The offer came after it was said at the district attorney's office that Ormiston "had completely ducked from sight."
It was made in a statement in which Hahn also said that he thought Ormiston should be granted immunity if he surrendered. The Hahn statement said, in part:
"My opinion is that the public is entitled to be acquainted with the facts concerning Mrs. McPherson's and Ormiston's activities during the period of their absence and from the time they left Carmel by auto until the time Mrs. McPherson appeared at Douglas, Ariz.
"By virtue of the fact that Mrs. McPherson poses as a religious leader in the community, as a pretended guardian of the chastity and a campaigner against sin, the actions between herself and Ormiston take it out of the class of private delinquency.
"This being the case, I contend that the provisions of the law empowering the district attorney to grant immunity has its application in a situation that now confronts the district attorney.
"For this reason it is my opinion that immunity should be granted to Ormiston, and I will surrender him."
Mrs. McPherson remained in bed, but her condition was much improved.
