From the London Chronicle.

THE Eyes of the People seem to be more opened now than ever, and see with great uneasiness and concern the many Changes of Men and Measures in the public Offices, has brought on great Alterations, which Time only will discover the Consequences of.--We have seen one Man To-day in Commission, removed To-morrow with his whole Train of Dependants : and another succeeding him, with a like Retinue : the Disappointments among these, serve only to beget Enmity and Revenge, each seeking who can best espouse the Cause of his injured Patron, and then by employing the Press, prostitute that Engine to the most reviling and indignant Purposes, blasting the Reputation of their Successors in Office, as the most infamous of the human Race ;--These are the Consequences, and these Feuds keep the Nation in a constant Ferment : as the respective Parties by Time and frequent Changes, becomes more increased in Numbers, and by far more divided ; and it is no uncommon sight to see Men of very low and groveling Principles, making large strides to Preferment, and Seizing hold of such high Places as Nature never designed them, and like Phaeton of old, furiously driving, till they set the Kingdom on Fire--Examine more narrowly into the private Characters of these Furies, and they appear to be Men of great Spirits, and driven by every Puff or Change of the Wind, which keeps them in a constant Maze of Perplexities, and Uncertainties.-- Though they are Men of Boldness, and high Rank, they are Men of Ignorance ; not knowing how to govern themselves they are most improper to govern the State : Thus by these unsteady and changeable Tempers, all is thrown into Confusion-- We are told his M--y is now determined to employ about his Person only, such Wise Men as can be recommended for their Modesty and Integrity. He has hitherto given too much Attention to others Recommendations, and will for the future examine the Qualifications of Candidates for his High Places, and dispose of the same only to the deserving--It has been held a good Maxim, that Places not worth asking for, are not worth giving. This his Majesty discards as an Impeachment of his want of Judgment to discern, and Knowledge to distinguish the modest from the impertinent Man.
