UFA Spurns Proposed Union
The United Fishermen of Alaska, at a special meeting Wednesday night, voted to approve the action of the executive board, in refusing to join the suggested Alaska Independent Fisheries Union.
W. A. "Pat" Cannon and Henry Eaton of the local union attended a meeting in Cordova on March 5 and 6, of the proposed union, and reported on it at Wednesday's meeting.
The UFA will remain with the AF of L.
Members indicated, at Wednesday's meeting, that affiliation with neither of the major unions would weaken bargaining power.
"The membership wish to make it clear that by their unanimous affirmative vote, taken on secret ballot, they, and not the officers, made the decision to refuse to affiliate with the suggested independent union," P. J. Kerrigan, secretary, said.
