The Shaw High Choir, directed by Miss Margery Shields, will make its first appearance of the year at a school assembly on Wednesday morning, 8:30 a. m. November 11, in the Shaw auditorium.
The Choir will sing the following group of numbers: "Awake" by Wagner; F. Melius Christiansen's well known arrangement of "Beautiful Savior", featuring Barbara Earley as contralto soloist; "Let All the Nations Praise the Lord" by Volckmar Leisring, an early 17th century composer, and arranged by Lara Hoggard. In a lighter mood will be selections from Jerome Kern's "Showboat" and Roy Ringwald's arrangement of "One Fine September".
The program will close with two Armistice Day selections: a choral setting of Jean Howson's poem, "In Flanders Fields"; and the Fred Waring arrangement of "The Battle Hymn of the Republic", performed by both the Choir and the Shaw High Orchestra.
The Orchestra, under the direction of S. Robert Fraser will also play: "Moods Americana" by Gerald Hummel and Percy Faith's arrangement of "Swedish Rhapsody" by Hugo Alfven.
During the assembly the Commander and officers of the American Legion, East Cleveland Post No. 107 will be introduced by Mr. Wayne C. Blough, Principal of Shaw High School.
The 85 members of the Choir have elected these officers for the year: President, David Davis; Vice President, Jay Hunton; Secretary-Treasurer, Jane Evans; Wardrobe, Chuck Pfahl, Bob DeWard, Joanne Baumann and Lee Wellman. The accompanists are Walter Klauss and Joanne Baumann.
