ARREST OF A CRANK.

Washington, Jan. 6.—The police officers at the White House were obliged to arrest a crank yesterday.

He was a middle aged German named Jacob Clements, who said he lived near Williams Bridge, N. Y. For three days he had haunted the White House, endeavoring to obtain access to the president. Tuesday he addressed a letter to the president, and Wednesday he called, and announced God had sent him.

He said he bore the mark on his brow and that he must see the president. When he was denied, he became boisterous, and the officers were obliged to arrest him and send him to the nearest police station to be examined as to his sanity.
