Full Text

As it has been ascertained beyond a reasonable doubt, that Messrs John, Amos & John Page's dwelling-house in this town, was burnt [Jun 8th] in consequence of a jealousy, that they had obtained from me, a deed of a third of a farm adjoining theirs.

I therefore, wish to state publicly through the medium of your paper, that neither of them have done anything towards obtaining the third, to my knowledge, except that Mr. Amos Page asked me what I would take for my claim to the third, providing he could agree with the widow to quit the premises. I have made no deed.

JOSEPH COLBY, jr.
