Mr. J. R. Brown, the renowned mind reader, gave a private reception at Mr. J. F. Cook's residence in this city, on Tuesday evening, to a few of our prominent citizens. Any person witnessing his tests could but feel that his powers are wonderful, and that there is an unfathomable mystery in his marvellous performances. None can doubt for a moment that he can, indeed, read the mind of his subject, for that was proven conclusively, at Mr. Cook's, by several delicate tests—which we have not space to describe. Mr. Brown is thoroughly endorsed by our most eminent scientists, and the mysterious power which he possesses, is, in many respects, unaccountable even to himself. There are mysteries in the realms of science for which we as yet are waiting in the shadows, and mysteries which, no doubt, ere many years, will be unfolded, and we walk out into the full light of day. We are happy to say that Mr. Brown has consented to give an entertainment at Jones' hall, on Monday evening next. We promise every person who attends the full worth of his money. We should also add that Lillie May Brown, his wife, assists him in the entertainment, her great specialty being "supernatural vision." Admission, only 35 cents. Reserved seats at Hayes Brothers' jewelry store, without extra charge.
