On the 20th ult a vessel was cleared at the custom house in Boston, for Fayal under Swedish colors--Suspicions being excited of some fraud and deception in the voyage (she was boarded by an officer and the papers demanded part of which were delivered by the pretended Swedish Captain- A strict examination however took place, and the officer found several papers sewed up in the sleeve of one of the passengers-and a jug. concealed in a keg of tripe, containing another parcel of papers, many of which purporting to be necessary for a voyage to Fayal, but in fact destined to Halifax- among them a British License to import Breadstuffs Provisions. &c to Halifax--letters directed to merchants at Fayal, known to be merchants and residents in Halifax - Capt John Palmer, Capt John Plumbly, Charles Gorham Samuel P Doane, Isaac Brown, John Whiting. Joseph H. Dorr and four mariners were arrested and examined before Judge Donnison and recognized to appear at the District Court of the U. S. on the 18th May next. to answer to the charges that may be preferred against them -Warrants were issued- against Joseph Howes, jr. but he could not be found.
