Has Decided to Vacate the Pulpit and Return to Pennsylvania.
The Rev. Geo. Comfort of Bozeman has decided to return to his former home in Pennsylvania and spend the remainder of his days. He will be remembered in Billings by many as the presiding elder of the Methodist Episcopal church of this district at the time that church was established in this city. Several years later he became pastor of the same church.
He came to Montana as a missionary more than thirty years ago, locating in Virginia City in the exciting days of old Alder gulch. He was a pioneer preacher in western Montana, holding the first religious services ever held in many places. There is only a small part of Montana where his footprints may not be seen. He was appointed by Governor Rickards superintendent of the state orphans' home, where he and his estimable wife did efficient service, until a political change in the governorship made it necessary for him to give place to another. His many friends will wish him bon voyage and that "At evening time it shall be light."
