A short time since, about eight miles from this place, up the Alleghany river, at an Indian camp the following very extraordinary affair happened.

A young warrior of the Seneca nation, who had escaped taking the small pox, which is raging amongst them, being much incensed at seeing so many of his brethren seized with that malady expressed himself to this effect: That if the Great Man above dared to give him the small pox he would tomahawk him as he would a stump, which he pointed at, and to shew how he would act, began cutting the stump in a most furious manner. In a few minutes he was struck entirely blind, and his head swelled to so great a degree that his eye-balls burst from their sockets, and he expired in a few hours.
