(By The United Press.)

Washington, Nov. 11.—Tribute of silent homage, impressive and significant, was paid here today to the "unknown soldier" upon the first anniversary of the return of his body from the foreign fields of battle to his homeland.

President Harding stood before the tomb in the great white amphitheater of Arlington cemetery where last year all the world paid homage on behalf of the American people, and placed memorial wreath upon the unadorned cenotaph. No word was spoken.

When the silent tribute was paid the President and other officials of the government departed.
