Meeting at Faneuil Hall.—Agreeably to previous arrangement, a meeting was held on Tuesday evening, of those citizens who are in favor of abolishing imprisonment for debt. His Honor the Mayor of the city was called to the chair, and Messrs. Ebenezer Bailey, and Samuel Ellis, appointed Secretaries.
Mr. Ellis introduced a set of resolutions, which were read from the Chair. One of them was amended at the suggestion of Mr. Samuel Adams, between whom and the Chairman and the Rev. John Pierpont some brief explanations passed. The meeting was then addressed successively by Messrs. Louis Dwight, John W. Whitman, Charles R. Lowell, Rufus Slack and Alexander H. Everett.
On motion of Mr. Pierpont, it was voted that when the meeting adjourn, it be to meet again at the same place on Thursday evening next.— Mr. Pierpont stated that he had been requested to come there and express to his fellow citizens his views respecting the subject under consideration—a request which he was ready to comply with as a duty which he owed them. On his motion the meeting then adjourned.
