Full Text

Extract of a private Letter from Beverley, dated Oct. 2.

"There are great Numbers here leaving off Business in Order to go to Nova-Scotia next Spring: This is so general an Intention among the Farmers and Husbandmen in several Counties of England, that 200 Farms and upwards have been quitted in Yorkshire, and the like has happen'd in some of the neighbouring Counties. This well deserves the Consideration of the Legislature; as by this Means we may become reduced to the same deplorable Condition as Sweden was by Charles XII. who depopulated his Kingdom so much by War, that the Women were obliged to till the Ground. I am, &c."
