WHITE PRIMARY

The white people of this state are determined to restore the white primary. Nothing else will satisfy them.

Of course, there are a few people in every community who hope to use the negro and the negro vote for their own selfish purposes. This has always been true.

But, the great majority of the white people know what the white primary means and they are determined to have it back.

In the old days in Augusta the negroes were herded into old wagon yards the night before the election, fed liquor and barbecue all night and the next morning given fifty cents or a dollar and herded into wagons and voted like so many cattle at as many of the polling places as they could get to before the polls closed.

In the old days similar conditions existed all over Georgia and as a result of this herding and bloc voting of the negroes by a few negro leaders and a few white people the white primary came into being.

The old wagon yards are gone. But the results today are the same.

Through the efforts of a few white men in each community and organizations in Washington, Chicago and New York, they are herding the negroes together and voting them in blocs like cattle just as they did in the old wagon yard days.

There has been no change and there is no difference today.

This condition forces the white people to join together and return the white primary to Georgia.

The white primary must be restored. It will be restored.

Unless you join together and stand together your city will continue to be dominated by a little political clique in the Zebra Party which is controlled by Boss Bill Morris who holds in his hand the negro voters who constitute the balance of power in your city. In the happiest days of his glory, Big John Kennedy did not hold such a formidable weapon over the people of Augusta, as Boss Bill now wields with the negro voting strength at his beck and call.

White People of Augusta don't forget what happened in Augusta on May 7th when the negroes, voting in a bloc like so many cattle, ratified and voted on you the new city charter.

The results of this election on May 7th speak a most eloquent message to you.

Let's elect a governor and a legislature next year who stand unequivocally and without any mental reservations whatever for the restoration of the white primary in Georgia.
