NEW-YORK, August 19.

Extract of a letter from Halifax, dated July 20.

Yesterday arrived here a ship from London with 100 soldiers, and we daily expect 700 or 800 more, together with two men of war, and some hundreds of settlers besides. This town and suburbs is near four miles long; and lots that are fit for business not to be had but at a very dear rate. In all appearance this bids fair for the capital of America in a few years. There are about 200 sail of vessels belonging to this port, and daily increasing, on account of the great encouragement in the fishery, which goes on with great success.
