Report from New-York on May 2 about the poor initial subscription to Mr. Gallatin's $11 million loan, with only $100,000 on the first day and $40,000 more from French subscribers on the second, criticizing it alongside election results as failing to curb Washington's war and restrictive policies.

NO COMMERCE—NO LOAN!
Mr. Gallatin's Loan.
The books for the loan of Eleven Millions of dollars were opened the day before yesterday. The Manhattan bank, as a decoy, offered half a million for sixty days. Besides this, the subscription did not amount to one hundred thousand dollars the first day. Yesterday, we learn, some Frenchmen added about forty thousand dollars more—And "go they wraf it uf."
If this, and the result of our elections do not cure the War Fever and Restrictive Mania, in Washington, cantharides must be applied to the whole sternum.—Probatur est.
