INDIANA'S GREATEST

Ray Crowe, brother of infielder George Crowe of the Cincinnati Redlegs is one of basketball's greatest coaches. He is acclaimed one of the all-time scintillants in a state noted as a nursery for college basketball talent. His teams at all-Negro Crispus Attucks High School in Indianapolis have won 177 of 199 games in the seven years he has been head coach.

His Attucks Tigers won the state championship in 1955 and 1956. had a string of 45 straight victories going into this season, and were runner-ups for Hoosier title this year.

Ray contributed Hallie Bryant to Indiana Universitys Big 10 champions and Oscar Robertson to the University of Cincinnati's great freshman team.

A dozen colleges have sought to hire Crowe as head coach. However. few have been able to match his $6,200 job at Crispus Attucks and an added 3,800 which he adds from summer employment. He is one of prep competition's highest paid coaches.

Ray has had overtures from Prairie View. Grambling. Kentucky State and many. many other colleges. He has refused to leave perhaps the toughest basketball state in the nation.

Crowe has pioneered many firsts and he intends to achieve others.
