Full Text

A writer in the Concord Courier has attempted to give a history of the transactions of the "first democratic legislature of New-Hampshire." When a writer undertakes a task of this nature, it certainly behoves him, if he cannot be candid, at least to confine himself within the limits of decency and truth. It is foolish to disguise facts and to tell lies, when there are so many respectable characters dispersed in every town in the state, who were eye-witnesses and can contradict them. The performance in question carries with it an antidote to the poison it was intended to convey—its bare-faced party rancour and manifest intention to misrepresent and deceive, will prevent any person of the least understanding from being misled; and back upon the head of the writer and publisher will the fatal stroke rebound, as a tame mode of federalism.
