LONDON. Sept. 5. —Two British liners rescued all of the seven hundred and thirty-six passengers of the S S Doric. after it had collided with the French steamer Forigny in the Atlantic ocean, off the coast of Portugal, in a fog.
The sea was calm, and the collision occurred in the early morning, most of the passengers being still asleep. They turned out calmly and waited their turns at the life-boats, no sign of panic being apparent at the interruption of their holiday cruise. They sang songs -and waited for the lifeboats to come for more and pull away to safety.
The rescue was accomplished by the Orion and the Viceroy, both of India.
The Doric was known as cupid's ship on its cruises to the Mediterranean, having established a record one voyage of nine engagements among the passengers.
The Forigny was not badly damaged, and put in to Lisbon. The Doric is sailing for Vigo under her steam.
