Full Text

Our experience has been that it is very difficult to make a young fruit tree grow where it is planted in an orchard already partially occupied with aged fruit trees, these seeming to have so monopolized the soil that no matter how well the young tree may be cared for it is simply starved out. Of a hundred such young trees which we have planted during the past four years among trees eight years old we do not believe 5 per cent have made a live of it, and those which have lived give no promise of ever making healthy, vigorous trees.
