A devastating fire struck Bridge Town, Barbados, on the night of the 14th ultimo, raging for two and a half days and destroying over 600 dwelling-houses, numerous warehouses, and other buildings. It claimed 100 white lives and 300-400 Negro lives. The affected area included all of Broadstreet from the Stepping Stones to below Mr. Cobham's and one side of Jew-Street up to the Church Yard. Destroyed houses rented for 30,000 l. Currency.
