George Shea, of Newburyport, formerly clerk at the Springs house, in some way got his Christmas presents mixed, and sent a bracelet to Dick Ellis and a pair of suspenders to a lady friend in town. On Xmas day, our friend George Shea
Was thoughtful of his friends:
And of the number, on that day.
To Stafford Springs, he sends
Two kind remembrances of love
To two of different genders.
One to adorn a gentle dove,
The other was—suspenders.
Alack! alas! the goods astrayed,
As sometimes haps to senders;
The youth in bracelets was arrayed,
The maiden in suspenders.
