FRIGHTFUL CASUALTY.—On Monday morning last, a negro man, Stephen, belonging to Messrs Hugh & Robert Douglas of this District, came to his death in a sudden and frightful manner, being thrown from a mule in harness, and dragged for half a mile by one of his feet, which had become entangled in the gearing. He was alive when first found, but died before medical assistance could be obtained. Coroner Dr. John Knox was called upon to hold an inquest on the body.—Chester Standard.

Fatal Accident.—We regret to learn that on Monday last Mr. Duncan Teal, of this district, accidentally discharged a double barrel pistol, both balls of which took effect, one in the inside corner of the left eye, penetrating to the depth of three inches—the other about an inch above. The latter was flattened and split open by the skull, and one half of it was extracted, the other half was lodged in the brain. At the last accounts Mr Teal was alive, but no hopes were entertained of his recovery. Cheraw Gazette.
