WHAT KEEPS PRICES RISING?

WHEN production reaches its peak, and when warehouses are jammed with goods and merchants become alarmed over their inventories, it is basic that prices should start to slide. In a free economy that will happen every time. That is free enterprise. But, that isn't happening in this country, in the year 1947, and a great many people, including the justice department, have begun to wonder why.

When prices remain high, or go even higher, in the face of a declining market and an over supply of goods, something is wrong. The economic balance isn't working. Monopoly and conspiracy, the price-fixing, are suspected, and with good reason.
