Winston Prince should never have insisted on paying J. C. Dampier for a favor.

Because he did, Prince is dead and Dampier is charged with murder. Both are Negroes.

Chief of Detectives M. B. Pierce gave this account of the killing:

Dampier was in bed at his house on John street when he heard a knock at the door. It was Prince, who lived two doors down the street.

Prince told Dampier his car was stalled and asked Dampier to push him off. Dampier got up, put on his clothes, cranked up his own car to push the one of Prince.

Dampier went back to bed.

Later, there was another knock on the door. Again, it was Prince who insisted on paying Dampier $1 for pushing him off.

"Go head on I don't want your money," said Dampier.

Prince refused to "go head on"

Dampier tried to push him out of the door.

A struggle ensued.

Dampier got a shot gun and Prince fell dead. It was Jackson's 17th homicide this year.
