DEAR MR. EDITOR:
Your editorial "Covered Gutters" of March 10 is my cup of tea; I mingle also my own appreciation of zealous Public Works in that praiseworthy public improvement. Now civic pride, from the doorstep level, is next up to swat a homer.
Here's a further thought: Utilize as play areas for children especially at Long Path and at Savan the overspreads (when constructed) of the two main guts in those areas.
Then fence the sites, install durable equipment for a variety of games (what about showers?), and provide adult supervision.
We are told that covering those guts will spell flooding, through the accumulated debris, with the very next downpour.
But we like the idea of earthen dams and wooded sections proposed recently by Planner Costello to minimize erosion; we would like to advance the idea of installing a series of watchamacallits within the hillside stream-beds as means to trap boulders and branches, etc. so that only water would flow into the city guts following a rainstorm.
This real estate, now being wasted, could be put to use (methink) as we raise real citizens. More power to our Public Works!

Main Argument
convert overspread areas of covered gutters in long path and savan into fenced, equipped play areas for children with adult supervision to promote civic pride and utilize wasted space, while implementing debris traps and dams to prevent flooding.
