Perhaps it might afford some amusement to the curious, and possibly be of utility in appreciating the literary & political state prevalent among our countrymen could the number and kinds of periodical publications be ascertained. With this view, and the hope that similar statements may thereby be produced in the other sections of the union, we are induced to submit to the public, and particularly to our brethren of the type, a correct list of the several Newspapers and Magazines now published in Connecticut.
In New Haven there are two newspapers; in Hartford two; New London one: Norwich three; Windham, one: Middletown one; Litchfield two; Danbury two: Bridgeport one— The whole making 15, which are issued weekly. Of these 4 are democratic & 11 federal.
There are also two Magazines, to wit, The Churchman's Monthly Magazine, published at New Haven (under the patronage of the bishops and clergy of Connecticut and New York). and the Evangelical Magazine published at Hartford.
