The Presidency.-It is now pretty certain that the election of our next president will devolve on the house of representatives. The friends of Messrs. Crawford, Adams and Jackson know very well that either of them can be elected if Mr. Clay should be one of the three from whom the selection is thus to be made, and hence the papers friendly to either of the gentlemen first named are labouring with great zeal to make the public believe Mr. Clay is out of the question.~-It is for this reason that we find the unfounded statement in the last Telegraph that "the presidential question has narrowed down to a contest between Mr. Adams and Gen. Jackson."-Nothing can be farther from the truth, than such a declaration, and we do not hesitate to say we think Mr. Clay stands a better chance than any other man, to receive the entire vote of this. state.Gen. Jackson, so far as New-York is concerned, is emphatically out of the market, and we believe there are good reasons why Mr. Clay will be preferred to either of the others.--The vote of this state could not benefit Mr. Crawford if he had them, and if they are given to. Mr. Clay, he would without a question. be our next president. A great . majority of our members are known to be in favor of encouraging domestic .manufactures, those great national interests which Mr. Clay has laboured night and day to establish. We are aware that the opposition have attributed the vote on the electoral bill to a corrupt bargain with the agents of Mr Crawford. but does the nomination of Samuel Young, for governor, (who is an open and avowed friend of Mr. Clay,) sanction such an opinion?- We do not hesitate to say that the professed friends of Mr. Clay are not deserving of this approbrious charge, and they will make good this assertion in November next, by giving a firm: and consistent vote for president and vice-president.

The election of the next president is expected to devolve on the House of Representatives. Supporters of Crawford, Adams, and Jackson seek to exclude Clay from consideration. The article refutes claims that the contest is only between Adams and Jackson, asserting Clay has the best chance in New York state, where Jackson is unpopular and Crawford cannot benefit from the vote. New York's members favor domestic manufactures championed by Clay. The nomination of Samuel Young, a Clay supporter, for governor counters accusations of corruption in the electoral bill vote. Clay's friends will support him consistently in November.
