From indications thus far, negro suffrage is overwhelmingly defeated. For instance, Scott county gave three hundred and twenty-two majority for the Constitution, but twelve hundred and forty-five against negro suffrage. Jasper county gives four hundred majority for the Constitution, but is almost unanimous negro against suffrage. And so it is throughout the State.
This is an indication of Western sentiment on this subject. It almost certainly declares the result on the same question in this State. There, as here, the Republican party accepted it as the issue—the Democrats openly avowed themselves against it. The result is completely satisfactory. Negroes cannot vote in the white West, yet awhile.
