DOWN WITH THE GANDER.
OLD JACKSON REDEEMED!!
RUFFIANISM REBUKED!!!
THE WHOLE TICKET!
YELE. DULY LOGGED.
Ye Fifer has Whistled his Last Jig
"Bucephalus" Sees a Vision
and
Dreams a Dream.
GLORY ENOUGH FOR ONE DAY!
For the first time in the history
of
Jackson county, the whole Democratic
ticket is defeated. Jo Miller is rowed up
salt river, and all the lesser satellites of
the administration are plodding along be-
hind, to the tune of "over Jordan," while
one or two are dismally keeping time to
the tune of the "rogue's march."
The glorious result on Tuesday last
has astounded and astonished the leaders
of the locofoco party. They were strik-
ing for five hundred majority. The par-
ty has been led of late by men who are a
disgrace to the lowest doggery in the
county—men who have recently come in-
to the county, and who entirely under-
rate the intelligence of the masses of the
party. We have resided for many years
in the county, and know that the masses
of the Democratic party are intelligent
and enlightened, and only need to see
their duty plainly marked out, and they
will do right. The vote on Tuesday
must be a scathing rebuke to the vulgar
blackguard who has had control of the
Democratic press in this place. He has
swamped and defeated his entire ticket,
and reduced the vote of his party in one
short year, nearly four hundred votes.—
When he found that the Democrats plac-
ed more confidence in the Standard than
in his own sheet, he fumed and sweated,
lied and blackguarded, and took on large
doses of "pig's feet and cider" for which
he paid—through the nose. But we
promised to let the poor devil alone, as
his own troubles are enough. He sees
the county printing taken from him—his
own party despises him, and just now,
no doubt, he wishes he had been so con-
stituted that he could be honest and de-
cent.
We do not claim the result of this elec-
tion as a Republican and American victo-
ry. We stated some time ago that many
honest Democrats would join us in the
good work, and it has been even so. All
praise to the honest, intelligent Democra-
cy of Jackson county. They have vindi-
cated their manhood—shaken off the
shackles of party, and strengthened our
faith in the ability of the American peo-
ple for self-government.
We rejoice. We feel like singing the
"first Doxology"
"Praise God from whom all blessings flow."
