Milwaukee Man Loses Life When Boat Capsized on Crab Lake While on Fishing Trip.
William Beveridge, aged 47, vice-president of the H. H. West Co. of Milwaukee, was drowned last Wednesday afternoon in Crab lake, near Winchester, in Vilas county.
John S. Blakley, president of the Milwaukee Athletic Club was in boat with Beveridge when it capsized. Blakley was unconscious when taken from the water but responded to resuscitative methods and was saved.
The two men were of a party of four Milwaukee men who had come into this part of the country for a fishing trip, the rest of party being made up of Harry Apple and George A. Schuyler, also of Milwaukee.
Beveridge and Blakley went out to the lake to fish while their friends were some distance away from them in another boat. When boat in which the first two men were riding capsized, Harry Apple and George Schuyler were attracted by the shouts of the men they rowed over. They recovered the two bodies in a few minutes, and worked over both. Blakley slowly returned to life but the body of William Beveridge failed to respond to the efforts of friends. The whole party with the body of Beveridge left Winchester for Milwaukee Wednesday evening.
This is the first drowning to be reported for this season in the lake region.
