Several French regiments, that had formerly served under Moreau, in Germany, have under a pretence of a mutinous disposition, been disbanded, and the men in them sent to the colonial depots, or incorporated with regiments that had been in Egypt.--This despotic act caused a great deal of murmuring; and when Buonaparte, the night after, went to the Theatre at Boulogne, he experienced proofs of the public opinion, such as he little expected, and which caused the theatre to be shut up the drama of Peter the Great was represented; when this Emperor was announced by his heralds, the pit cried out, "No Emperor! No Emperor!" To this Bonaparte paid little attention; nor when, in another part, at the arrival of the Prince of the Blood, the pit cried, "Vive le Enghien!" but when, in the second act, Peter the Great threatens his faithful and brave General Le Fort, with Siberia, "Vive Moreau!" resounded from every part; the Corsican left the Theatre in a rage; and ordered the Public Commissary to surround the house with soldiers and find out who the emissaries of Pitt were that disturbed the audience, and insulted him by their disloyal behaviour, and seditious acclamations. Every person was of course, obliged to shew his pass, or give an account of himself.
