ANOTHER NAVAL VICTORY!

The Mail of this morning brings us from our correspondent at Charleston, the following short, but highly gratifying intelligence. We have scarcely time to announce one brilliant exploit of our gallant Tars, before another is at hand. The disproportion of killed and wounded upon this, exceeds any former occasion.

From the Charleston Courier Extra

SEVENTH NAVAL VICTORY.

Sunday Morning, Sept. 19.

We have the satisfaction of announcing to the public that the U. States' sloop of War ARGUS is in the offing, with the British Sloop of War PELICAN, her Prize in company, taken after a desperate engagement of FIFTEEN MINUTES, (carried by boarding.)

Capt. Allen of the Argus has just come up, and we have conversed with a midshipman who states that she was taken off Halifax, but it was deemed expedient to proceed to this place for the purpose of escaping the British blockading squadrons--He also states that the captain (R. P. Davies) of the Pelican was KILLED, and the vessel was commanded the most part of the action by first Lieutenant Savage.

British Loss 97 killed and wounded.

American 12 do.

do.

[At the commencement of the war, the British had a frigate called the Pelican, of 28 guns, formerly the French Brave--she was lost on the N. W. bar of the Isle of Sable-the vessel now taken has been commissioned during the present year. and is not in our latest Steel's List.-ED. LED.]
