Extract of a letter from Lancaster to the editor, dated Sept. 29.

"Though we can, as yet, give you a very partial and unsatisfactory account of the election of yesterday, I have nevertheless the pleasure of informing you, that, from what we already know, our most sanguine expectations are amply realized. There are, in this county, eleven districts—In the borough district the votes are thus, viz.

Lancaster township, 32 0

Hempfield township, 164 91

Manor, (number of votes not asserted) about 3 to 1

Conestogoe, (no return)

Manheim township, 41 1

In the borough, the jacobins, in the morning, counted on a majority; and had the same foolish expectations, respecting most of the townships: The result has afforded them a damning proof, of what they will experience on the final result, that the arch-deceiver, Duane, has completely humbugged them with his fine calculations; and many poor blockheads will curse him (or, at least, will have good reason to do so) for leading them into the most stupid and extravagant bets. I am among the least sanguine of my friends in this quarter—I have pretty uniformly declared it as my opinion, that our county will give a majority for M-Kean of 1000; but it is now the general opinion here, that we shall have between 1400 and 1500.

What now becomes of the Straddlepole's majority of 400 for Snyder, in Lancaster county? Will his disciples be still gulled by his nonsense and his villainy?—If they are determined to persevere in their stupidity, in God's name let them go on—Quos deus vult perdere, prius dementat."
