Celebrates 52nd Year With Birthday Dinner and Social Evening
State Master Speaks
The 52nd anniversary of the Smyrna Grange was celebrated last Thursday evening at the club room with a dinner meeting. Invocation was by the Rev. Herman Dam. Mrs. Alice B. Corrie, lecturer, was in charge of the program following the dinner. Paul M. Hodgson, president of the Delaware State Education Association and supervisor of agriculture, was the guest speaker. His subject was "How Important Is the Education of Delaware Children to You?" A. Bailey Thomas, State Master, spoke on the progress of the Grange throughout the state and nation. The program was as follows: Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag; a reading, "Our Grange," Mrs. Blanche Short; piano solo, Mrs. Mary H. Fleming; vocal solo, Rev. Robert E. Green, accompanied by Mrs. Green. The duties of a Chief Deputy Sheriff, Mrs. Howard C. Deakyne; Post-War Planning For the Grange, James R. Fleming; reading, Harry C. Johnson; Our Obligation to State Legislation, Elmer P. Corrie; recitation, George Washington, Miss Margery Johnson; Financing of Public School Education, Walter W. Hynson; duet, "Whispering Hope," Mr. and Mrs. Walter Myers. At the conclusion of the program Mr. and Mrs. James R. Fleming were presented with a beautiful bouquet of flowers in honor of their 18th wedding anniversary.
Visiting guests were Mrs. A. Bailey Thomas, Camden; Mr. and Mrs. Parris C. Kirby, Milford; Mr. and Mrs. Donald Jester, Milford; Mr. and Mrs. Paul M. Hodgson, Dover; Mrs. Mary Morris and Mrs. Prudence Prettyman of Smyrna.
