in Style This Year
By Rosalie Welfe.
Cottons may well be the stylish lady's choice this spring since they were never more interesting in weave nor more lovely in color. Varied in weight and type, they may be used for every occasion from early morning to formal evening attire.
Prints are ever present in the fashion plates but this year diagonals, checks, plaids, polka-dots, leaves fruits and ferns are all new and especially pleasing designs. Those designs are evenly spaced and cover the background closely. Flower garden prints are colorful, too. These designs may be found on percales, pique, and broadcloth for day-time dresses and school dresses, or they may be found on powder puff muslin, voile or organdy for afternoon and party frocks.
Stripes are to the fore, woven in and printed on almost every type of fabric. There are novelty piques, seersucker, organdy, batiste and voile, all with narrow or wide, gay or conservative colored stripes.
Faconne designs are woven in the form of chevrons on a very trim, tailored cotton called chevronette for shirtwaist dresses. These are used on organdies, too.
Cotton net will be used by young girls for party dresses.
Novelty cotton abound with corded stripes, plaid effects, checked weaves. many of these very suitable for general wear for day time dresses and ensembles.
Ginghams in gay Scotch plaids and novelty combinations will be used for school girl frocks and for shirting, sports dresses and blouses.
Viewed in any cotton yard goods department the array of cottons is more desirable than ever. Be comfortable, suitably dressed and smartly dressed this spring in cotton costumes for every hour of the day.
