Full Text

Magnetic Telegraph. —Last evening Mr. Colton gave a lecture at the Tabernacle, intended to illustrate the principle and action of the Electro-Magnetic Telegraph. A small model was exhibited explanatory of the machine. It appears that at the place to which the news &c. is communicated, a lever is lifted up by means of wires dipped in the galvanic battery at the place from which the news &c. comes. These wires communicate by the electric fluid a magnetic property to a magnet which draws or attracts the iron at the end of the lever, and thus sets it in motion, ad libitum. The Tabernacle was well filled, and the subject appeared greatly to interest the audience.
