For the Union.
A FRIEND GONE.
Gone from the bright home circle,
Gone from its joys and tears;
Leaving the dearly loved ones,
The friends of happy years.
Gone! We repeat it sadly,
When will she come again?
True hearts long to greet her,-
Do we but call in vain?
Gone! We cannot recall her,
Her's is no earthly stay;
God lent her for a season-
Shall He not take away?
Learning life's lessons meekly
Helping with loving heart,
Teaching by patient example,
Well hath she borne her part.
Welcomed by waiting angels
To life more true and fair,
Sweet in her home in heaven,
Shall we not meet her there?
