WASHINGTON. (P) - Douglas McKay, the new Secretary of the Interior, said he still has not received any recommendation from the Alaska Republican Central Committee on its choice for governor.
McKay had said earlier he was not inclined to appoint any of those seeking the job of succeeding Governor Ernest Gruening when Gruening's term expires in April.
He recommended that Alaska Republicans unite on a recommendation, which he would consider but not necessarily favor.
The Alaska Republicans voted 9 to 5 in favor of Robert Reeve of Anchorage. Reeve was the defeated Republican candidate for Territorial Delegate last fall. He lost to Delegate Bartlett, holdover Democrat.
McKay said he knew nothing about a "flood of telegrams" over the situation, declaring no "flood" had immersed his office. Juneau had reported the telegram flood.
