New-Hampshire—SHE MUST!

This patriotic sentiment, uttered by General Wilson, on a recent occasion, should be the watch-word of every true hearted Whig.

There is much comprehended in the emphatic monosyllables, "SHE MUST," and the People of New-Hampshire should ponder them well.

"New-Hampshire—SHE MUST"—call to account the unfaithful stewards, who have wasted the treasures of the People;

"SHE MUST"—call upon her public servants to account for the $90,000 of the 3 per cent. stocks, the last remnant of our revolutionary fund, which has been squandered since 1828;—

"SHE MUST" demand of them to answer further what they have done with State Taxes since June, 1833—amounting to the enormous sum of Two HUNDRED AND EIGHTY-FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS;—

"SHE MUST"—compel them to unfold the dark and damning secrets of the State Prison—and the plunder and peculation of its officers ;—

"SHE MUST"—compel them to deliver up to public justice and execration THE MEN WHO HAVE PLUNDERED THE PEOPLE, be they high or low ;

"SHE MUST"—by her certain and inflexible punishment of public culprits, evince her stern regard for equal justice to all classes of men ;—

"SHE MUST"—know whether her Chief Magistrate fulfilled his duty, when the New-Market Warden was required to give bonds to the State for the faithful discharge of his duties;

"SHE MUST"—be informed who ARE the bondsmen of that Warden—and whether any attempts are to be made by the present Executive to secure the State by calling upon the sureties of Stinson ;

"SHE MUST"—know whether the $60,000 squandered at the Prison, have gone to build up a little cabal of office-holders at Concord; or whether A. P. Stinson is flourishing upon the fruits in the far West ;

"SHE MUST"—be told, whether any tricks of the party have been made use of, to exonerate the sureties of Stinson, and shove off upon the people the losses that they are bound to see paid;—

"SHE MUST"—be better satisfied of the legality of the OUTFIT allowed the State Treasurer, before that shameless transaction will be forgotten ;—

"SHE MUST"—wipe from her statute book the stigma of the act of 1837, reducing the salaries of Registers of Probate to $50 per annum, because they would not bow the knee to Baal ;—

"SHE MUST"—wipe off the disgrace of authorizing the Banks to hoard up their Specie, at the same time the People are forbidden to circulate their bills ;—

"SHE MUST"—reform the Administration of the Government, by introducing HONEST and FAITHFUL republicans into office—and bringing back to the practice of our rulers the economy and official integrity of Langdon, BARTLETT, and GILMAN ;—

"SHE MUST"—in fine, hurl from their high places of trust, the political mountebanks and deceivers, who with the cry of Democracy on their lips, and full of the gall and wormwood of Aristocracy—who while they pretend to be dear friends of the People, are only the friends of the dear people's money—who, while they denounce all paper money, are themselves the begettors and multipliers of Banks, and the authors of an irredeemible currency—who while they denounce Banks as monopolies, are themselves the salaried officers of non-specie paying Banks—who, while pretending to official honesty and integrity, have for years been trying to hide from public scrutiny the most glaring and abominable peculation in the agents of the Prison ;— and who, (as if that was not enough to "damn them to everlasting fame,") undertook last June to SMOOTH over the iniquity of another salaried officer, who coolly pocketed hundreds of the People's money, without right or authority, but in the face and eyes of a penal statute ! These men, these hollow-hearted pretenders to republicanism, "must" be called to account before the high tribunal of public opinion, which they have outraged—they "must" be tried by the DEMOCRACY OF NUMBERS, whom they have betrayed—and it needs no spirit of prophecy to foretell, if justice be done them, that they WILL be driven with scourges from the public stations which they have prostituted and disgraced.

It is a fact which should be known to and remembered by every voter who pays taxes, that since the tories came into power the expenses of the federal government have more than doubled, while the receipts from the revenues have diminished about one half. The expenses have increased from about $11,000,000.00, to more than $35,000,000.00, while the receipts have decreased within three years from $45,000,000.00, to less than $20,000,000.00 ! Here is the evidence of our national prosperity ! Here we see the consequences of the attempt to tinker the currency—the experiments which have been visited upon a too confiding people.

The President of the United States refused to furnish the Printer to the House of Representatives, with an early copy of his Message to Congress to enable him to supply the members at its delivery as is usual. We can regard such a refusal but as another manifestation of that tyrannical spirit which induced his "illustrious predecessor" in whose footsteps he is endeavoring to tread, to "take the responsibility" of measures which were neither consistent with the integrity of a public servant, nor compatible with the liberties of the people. These things must terminate in a change of rulers or a change of government. Which do the people prefer?
