From Mexico.-The barque Ann Eliza, Biscoe, has arrived from Vera Cruz, whence she sailed on the 2d instant, and brings us several interesting items of intelligence. The Ann Eliza was taken possession of on the 27th April, by order of the Military Commandant, Gen. Victoria, and Capt. Biscoe and his mate were taken on board the Mexican-brig of war Iturbide, in consequence of the capture of the Gen. Urrea by the U. S. ship Natchez. On the evening of the 1st of May, she was released, and sailed for the United States the next day.

The Texian armed schooner Independence was captured off Galveston on the 17th of April, by the Mexican brigs of war Libertad, Capt. Davis, of 14 guns, and Vencedor del Alamo, Capt. Godinez, of 13, after a severe contest (as it is said) of four hours. The Independence mounted five guns, and we are of course very much inclined to believe that a great portion of these four hours were spent by the Mexicans in endeavoring to catch the Texan. One of the Mexican vessels was commanded by an American who learned his trade under Commodore Porter, and we have very little idea that he would be four hours in blowing a little schooner of four or five guns out of the water—brave as we dare say her commander and crew were—and even though Capt. Davis commanded nothing but Mexicans. The Mexican brigs and the brig Iturbide, with their prize, the Independence, were lying at Vera Cruz when the Ann Eliza left, as were also his Britannic Majesty's corvette Satellite, Capt. Robb, and the French frigate Didon, Capt. Brittonneire, and two French man of war brigs.—N. Y. Gazette.
