Our Recent Victories.
The great and important successes of the last few days is encouraging to the country. Chattanooga the great stronghold of Southeastern Tennessee, to which railroads from the Gulf States center and run through Eastern Tennessee to Richmond, was taken by Gen. Rosecrans. Knoxville and Cumberland Gap were taken by Gen. Burnside, which relieves Eastern Tennessee and Eastern Kentucky from rebel invasions. It destroys the most important railroad communications, from which their bread stuffs are principally to be obtained for Lee's army; and then hems them up in the half of Virginia. They have no means left them of escaping, only through North Carolina and South Carolina, and it looks as if very soon Gen Gillmore and Gen. Rosecrans will close that gap. Gen. Gillmore has already taken Morris Island, demolished Fort Sumter, and now commands Charleston with his siege guns. The want of provisions and clothing, and the worthlessness of their money must completely demoralize their army and make it impossible for them to accomplish anything. They have received their fatal blow; yet Gen. Lee may make one more death struggle, but whether he does or not, the rebellion is doomed, and must soon be ended.

Union forces achieve major victories: Gen. Rosecrans captures Chattanooga, severing rebel supply lines; Gen. Burnside takes Knoxville and Cumberland Gap, relieving Eastern Tennessee and Kentucky; Gen. Gillmore seizes Morris Island, destroys Fort Sumter, and besieges Charleston. These successes isolate the Confederacy, demoralize their army due to shortages, and doom the rebellion.
