Something That Astonished Lawrence.

New York, Feb. 23.—Detective Bangs, of Pinkerton's agency, arrested Richard A. Lawrence, a boy employed by the National Express company, on Friday on a charge of stealing parcels committed to the care of the company. The boy was kept a prisoner at the agency until Monday, when he was taken to the Tombs police court and held for examination. Lawrence says that under promise of being released he confessed to Robert Pinkerton that he had committed the theft and $285 worth was recovered. Lawrence was astonished at Pinkerton not keeping his promise, and the question of the right of the Pinkerton agency to keep a prisoner for nearly four days will be argued on the trial.
