Allegations of Board of Children's Guardians to Be Investigated.
[SPECIAL TO "THE JERSEY CITY NEWS."]
MOUNT HOLLY, Nov. 15, 1899.-The stories in circulation relative to the alleged mismanagement at the Burlington county almshouse were given a chill yesterday when the Board of Freeholders started in to investigate them, and at the same time to locate the person who was willing to stand sponsor for the alleged utterances of the Board of Children's Guardians.
A copy of the report made to Governor Voorhees was furnished, but the allegations therein contained were mainly to the effect that there was no separation of the sexes at the almshouse and the result was gross immorality.
Mrs. W. B. Abbey, of Mount Holly, who is a member of the Board of Guardians, made a statement today at the Freeholders' meeting in which she denied being responsible for any part of the alleged interview published in the newspapers in which the Board of Guardians was quoted as saying that the Burlington County almshouse was a den of iniquity.
After Mrs. Abbey had concluded her statement the Board of Freeholders decided to have an investigation anyhow, and appointed a committee of five persons to make diligent inquiry into the condition of affairs at that institution.
